O’Hare International Airport: Statistics / Traveler Info

TRACON is based at O’Hare International Airport in Chicago. O’Hare’s central location has enabled it to maintain the title of “world’s busiest airport” for years. However, in the late 1990s, Atlanta Hartsfield edged out Chicago for the top spot by accommodating more than 73 million passengers annually, about 1 million more than O’Hare. In early 2001, O’Hare reclaimed its coveted crown, handling about 2,500 takeoffs and landings a day or an average of more than 100 an hour.

Los Angeles International Airport

As the largest gateway to the Pacific Rim from the West Coast, LAX handles airplanes from six continents carrying 61 million passengers a year, including 15 million international travelers.

Van Nuys Airport

O’Hare may be one of the premiere provinces for commercial planes, but Van Nuys Airport in California’s San Fernando Valley ranks as the world’s busiest for general aviation. There were more than 600,000 operations in 1999
